This piece is my take on the traditional Māori weapon known as the kotiate. Historically, these were often crafted from pounamu (New Zealand greenstone) and carried great significance as both a weapon and a symbol of mana.
 
I’ve recreated this kotiate with respect for its original design – the notched blade and smooth handle reflect the classic form used in hand-to-hand combat.
