This piece is my take on the traditional Māori weapon known as the mere. Historically, these were often carved from pounamu (New Zealand greenstone) and were highly prized, symbolising strength, authority, and mana.
 
I’ve recreated this mere with respect for its original design – the sleek, flat blade and rounded edges reflect the classic form used in close combat. While this version is a replica, it pays tribute to the craftsmanship and heritage of the traditional mere.
